🧠 Neuropathic Pain Relief

Mechanism

Note: NERVIGESIC 450 mg is a maximum-strength dose indicated for patients who have not achieved adequate pain relief with lower doses. It should be used only under medical supervision, at the lowest effective dose, for the shortest duration required.

Route

Oral — swallow whole with or without food

Typical Dose

As directed by physician — may be split (e.g. 150 mg morning + 300 mg evening) based on tolerability

Renal Adjustment

Discontinuation

Taper gradually over a minimum of 1 week — do not stop abruptly

⚠ Key Safety Warnings

• Do not stop abruptly: Sudden discontinuation may cause increased seizure frequency, insomnia, nausea, headache, anxiety, and sweating. Always taper gradually over at least 1 week under medical supervision.
• Dependence potential: Pregabalin has potential for physical dependence and misuse, particularly in patients with a history of drug or alcohol abuse. Use only as prescribed.
• CNS depression: May cause dizziness, somnolence, and blurred vision — do not drive or operate heavy machinery until the effects of the medication are known.
• Alcohol & CNS depressants: Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants — combined use significantly increases sedation and risk of adverse effects.
• Suicidal ideation: Antiepileptic drugs including pregabalin may increase risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviour — monitor patients closely, especially in early treatment.
• Angioedema: Discontinue immediately if swelling of the face, mouth, or throat occurs — life-threatening respiratory compromise may result.

⛔ Known hypersensitivity to pregabalin or any component of the formulation

⛔ History of drug or alcohol dependence (use with extreme caution)

Key Drug Interactions

Opioids, benzodiazepines, alcohol (increased CNS/respiratory depression); ACE inhibitors (increased angioedema risk); gabapentin (combined use not recommended — no proven added benefit)
